Presentation Day of Croatia’s bid for EUCA

Zagreb presented as a functional and ready solution for the new European Union agency.

As part of the Republic of Croatia’s bid for the seat of the EU Customs Authority (EUCA) in Zagreb, on Friday, 20 February, the Ministry of Finance, the Customs Administration, presented the building nominated by the Republic of Croatia for the seat of the new Customs Agency in Zagreb, and the Advanced Training Centre in Bregana as an added value to the bid, in light of the future role of the EUCA in the implementation of common customs training at the EU level.
The event was attended by Croatian representatives in the European Parliament, ambassadors, deputy ambassadors and professional diplomatic staff from the embassies of the EU Member States in Zagreb, representatives of the customs services from the capitals of the Member States, customs attachés accredited in the Permanent Representations of the Member States in Brussels and representatives of private companies, along with representatives of the Ministry of Finance as the organiser, Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, and the City of Zagreb.
In his introductory speech, Director of the Customs Administration Mr Mario Demirović welcomed the distinguished guests and explained the basic elements of Croatia’s bid and the advantages that Croatia has to offer. The support of the City of Zagreb and the city policies that add to the appeal of Zagreb as a desirable place to live and work in was presented by Head of the City Office for Local Self-Government, Transport, Municipal Affairs, Civil Protection and Security Mr Andro Pavuna, while the technical features of the building that meet the required criteria were presented by Assistant Director of Customs Administration Mr Miroslav Lučić.
In a guided tour that followed, all guests were shown the building by individual segments and floors, with the amenities and conditions that it can offer to future employees.
The guests then had a chance to see the Advanced Training Centre of the Ministry of Finance, Customs Administration, at the former Bregana border crossing. The possibilities and capacities of the Centre, as well as the types of training carried out, were presented by Mr Tihomir Žegrec, advisor at the Customs Administration. A demonstration of the work of officials in the detection of smuggled goods on vehicles used to smuggle illicit goods was also held. The presentation was concluded with the performance of Customs Administration a cappella ensemble “St. Matthew”.
The Presentation Day served to promote the quality and advantages of Croatia’s bid for the seat of the EUCA, and all guests left with very positive impressions, saying they would spread the word in their respective capitals.
